I was sitting with my Uncle Max Elliott the Davis County Surveyor last spring and as we discussed the County Commissioners he mentioned to me the John Petroff wasn’t going to seek re–election. Having known me throughout my life and with my success in business, he suggested I run as he knew I would make an excellent Commissioner. That conversation inspired me to begin the process of running for office.
I am the type of person that doesn’t just do a job but makes sure the job is done right! So seeking to be a great commissioner, I started to research and learn all aspects of the job. I began attending weekly Commissioner meetings, and I took each Commissioner to lunch and asked what their job entails and what to expect. I then began the process of attempting to meet every Legislator and Mayor attending different city council meetings throughout the county to learn about the issues facing each city.
I participated in the week-long county budget meetings and listened to each department make their budget requests for the new year. I attended many other board meetings that commissioners attend to become educated on the issues facing Davis County. I joined the Davis County Chamber Legislative Affairs Committee to keep me abreast of the facing legislative issues in Davis County. I have been attending “UAC” Utah Association of Counties meetings at the Capitol to understand better the effect of state and county policies and how they impact our county.
I have learned that being a Commissioner is a great responsibility, and the demands will be full time sometimes more than full time. I feel prepared and ready to serve as your Commissioner.
